Colorado to sign right-hander Hudson-Catch Starlings contract

The Colorado Rockies have strengthened their power with FA.

The Rockies announced on Sunday (Korea time) that they agreed on a one-year contract with right-hander Dakota Hudson (34) catcher Jacob Starlings. The size of the contract was not disclosed.

He made his big league debut in 2018 and pitched in 114 games in six seasons, leaving him with 38 wins, 20 losses and a 3.84 ERA.

He pitched 174 2/3 innings in 33 games in 2019, leading the starting lineup, but he has not been able to show the same after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2020.

In the 2023 season, he pitched 81 1/3 innings in 18 games, recording six wins, three losses and an ERA of 4.98. He recorded 1.0 homers, 3.8 walks, and 5.0 strikeouts per nine innings of WHIP 1.500.

Following the signing of Carl Quantrill, Colorado has another starting resource. They also have starting resources such as Kyle Freeland, Austin Gomber, Hermann Marquez, and Antonio Senzatela.

Starlings played in 451 games in eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2016-21) and Miami Marlins (2022-23) and posted a batting average of 0.312 on-base plus 0.335 slugging percentage.

In the 2023 season, he played in 88 games and recorded a batting average of 0.191 on-base percentage of 0.278 with three home runs and 20 RBIs.

As a catcher, he has a career fielding rate of 0.994 and a steal blocking rate of 21%. In 2021, he won the Gold Glove Award.

He is expected to share the Colorado home turf with Elias Diaz.
