When a player comes on as a substitute and makes an impact, they are often referred to as a “super sub”. The Kiwoom Heroes have one such player.
In their home game against the Lotte Giants at the Gocheok SkyDome on the 19th, Kim Jun-wan was not in the starting lineup, but he came off the bench to go 1-for-3 with a RBI. He came to bat for Kim Xiang (catcher) in the bottom of the fifth inning.
He singled in his first at-bat and came around to score on a single by Song Sung-moon.
In his second at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning, he also got a hit, giving him a multi-hit game (two or more hits in a game). He came back to bat in the bottom of the eighth inning to drive in the game-winning run with a double.
Kiwoom went on to defeat Lotte 5-2. It was their second consecutive come-from-behind victory after the previous day’s game.
“My hitting has been good for a few days now, but I was having trouble with my groundballs,” Kim said after the game. “The day before, Coach Oh Yoon told me, ‘Your timing is good, but your hand position is a little down, so I want you to work on that.’ After listening to him, I had three hits. I’m grateful to Coach Oh for giving me the right advice.”
He also talked about the second base hit that turned into a wedge hit. “I didn’t feel too much pressure because I got a hit in my first two at-bats,” Kim said, adding, “The pitch count was high, so I swung with the mindset of not striking out, and I got lucky.”안전놀이터
He also thanked the fans for their support. The game was attended by 13,423 fans at Gocheok Sky Dome. “I’ve been realizing more and more lately that one win is really important,” said Kim Jun-wan, “and I will do my best in the remaining games of the season so that I can give back to the fans who always come to the ballpark.”
