Second-year Samsung right-hander Shin Jung-hwan gets emotional debut start…9-1 win over LG

Samsung Lions second-year right-hander Shin Jung-hwan recorded his first professional start.

Shin started the Futures League home game against LG at Gyeongsan Ballpark on July 27 and pitched six innings, allowing one run on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts. It was the first quality start of his professional career.

Samsung rode a two-hitter to a 9-1 victory over LG. It was Samsung who struck first. In the second inning, Song Jun-seok doubled and scored on a wild pitch, followed by Oh Hyun-seok’s single to right.

In the fourth inning, they completed their big inning. Song Jun-seok drew a walk and Oh Hyun-seok singled to right, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Ryu Seung-min singled to right-center to bring home Song Jun-seok. Kim Do-hwan and Kim Ho-jae struck out and walked, respectively, but Kim Sang-min hit a triple over the center field fence to bring home two more runs. Yang Woo-hyun followed with a squeeze bunt to score another run.

Samsung made it 5-0 in the fifth when Kim Do-hwan singled with runners on second and third. LG got one run back in the top of the sixth on consecutive singles by Choi Won-young, Ahn Ik-hoon, and Son Ho-young. In the top of the seventh, Samsung clinched the game with back-to-back RBI singles by Kim Do-hwan and Kim Ho-jae.안전놀이터

Shin Jeong-hwan was followed by Jang Pil-joon, Lee Jae-ik, and Hong Seung-won, who combined for one inning of scoreless relief. Kim Sang-min (5-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 run), Yang Woo-hyun (4-for-3), Oh Hyun-seok (4-for-3, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Ryu Seung-min (4-for-3, 1 RBI, 3 runs), and Kim Do-hwan (4-for-2, 3 RBI) all had solid performances.

LG starter Kim Young-jun took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 3⅔ innings. Son Ho-young was the only other LG hitter to record a multi-hit game.
