Doosan foreign-born pitcher Brandon Waddell, 29, has won five games in eight starts since returning to the team. He matched his win total from last year and lowered his ERA to 2.06.
Brandon took the mound against Hanwha in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Daejeon’s Hanwha Life Eagles Park on Nov. 11 and pitched six innings of five-hit, two-walk, one-hit ball with four strikeouts and one walk to lead Doosan to an 11-4 victory.
He gave up one run on four hits in the sixth inning, but struck out Lee Jin-young on a cutter with the bases loaded and grounded out to Park Sang-un at second base to end the inning without further damage. The Doosan bats scored runs in every inning from the first to the fifth, totaling 11 runs in support of Brandon.
Brandon’s total pitch count for the day was 104, with 65 strikes and 39 balls. His fastball (41) topped out at 151km and averaged 141km, with a mix of cutters (32), sliders (22), and changeups (9).
After returning to the Doosan organization in late June as a replacement, Brandon went 5-2 in eight games and lowered his ERA to 2.06. He also has a WHIP of just 1.04 with 48 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched.
Last year, he made his debut as a replacement in August, going 5-3 with a 3.60 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 11 games (65 innings), but this year, he’s been pitching better in every way.안전놀이터
After the game, Brandon said, “I’m glad I was able to help the team win. We were able to win today because the bats came up big early. They also helped us a lot on defense. I want to thank them for their focus in the field.” “Personally, I’m disappointed that we didn’t get a longer inning because of the high pitch count. In the next game, I will do a better job of controlling my pitches and preparing for a longer inning.”
