Min-Jae Kim and Harry Kane (both Bayern Munich) came on late, but the team fell just short of the title.
Munich played RB Leipzig in the final of the 2023-2024 German DFL Super Cup at the Allianz Arena in Germany at 3:45 a.m. ET on Wednesday, losing 0-3.
The DFL Super Cup is a one-off match between the winner of the Bundesliga (Munich) and the winner of the German DFB-Pokal (Leipzig) from the previous season.
Munich started Sven Ulreich (in goal), Dayo Upamecano, Matthijs de Licht, Benjamin Pavard, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane, Alfonso Davies, Konrad Reimer, Mathis Tell, and Jamal Musiala.
Defender Kim Min-jae was named to the bench after a solid preseason. Kane, who made his first appearance in a Munich shirt on Dec. 12 at Tottenham, also started the game as a substitute for now.
Leipzig sent out Janis Blaszczyk (goalkeeper), David Raum, Billy Oriban, Mohamed Simakan, Benjamin Helichs, Javi Schlager, Nicolas Seibald, Dani Olmo, Xavi Simons, Roy Offenda and Timo Werner.
Leipzig opened the scoring in the third minute of the first half. From a free-kick opportunity, Olmo connected with the second ball with a low, quick shot with his right foot to put Munich on the back foot. It was the first goal.
After conceding early, Munich got busy. In the ninth minute, Gnabry burst into the box after a brilliant through ball and tried a quick shot on the rebound that was saved.
Despite falling behind, Munich continued to take control of the game and attack. In the 22nd minute, Gnabry tried to get a foot on a cross from the right but failed.
Leipzig did not stand still. They pushed for a second goal. In the 33rd minute, they were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Raum tried to take it himself, but he hit the wall.
Gearco Leipzig scored a second goal. Olmo, the “first man up,” registered a multi-goal performance, slipping the ball between two Munich players and slotting it between the goalkeeper’s legs in the 44th minute.
The first half ended with Leipzig leading 2-0.
At the start of the second half, Kim Min-Jae took the field for De Ligt. It was the official debut of the player who joined Munich in the summer transfer window.
Eight minutes into the second half, Kim made light work of his opponent with a physical challenge and then played a precise reverse transition pass in the 11th minute. Four minutes later, he comfortably intercepted a ball from the Munich half to Offenda. He overpowered Offenda with his speed.
With the game on the line, Munich pulled out the Kane card. In the 19th minute of the second half, they took Teller off and brought on Kane.
However, the mood in Munich did not improve. In the 22nd minute, they were awarded a penalty kick for a handball foul. Olmo stepped up to take the spot kick, completing his hat trick. Despite bringing on Kim Min-jae and Kane to reinforce the defense, this was the moment when Munich collapsed.바카라사이트
Despite the bad mood, Kim stayed focused on his role and made a ‘super tackle’ to save a goal. In the 24th minute of the second half, Leipzig’s Sesko drove the ball into the Munich half at breakneck speed on a counter-attack. He was followed by Kim Min-jae. In no time at all, he had beaten the keeper. Just as he was about to shoot from the left side of the box, Kim made a clean tackle on him. It was a one-goal save.
However, Munich was unable to make up for the deficit. The game ended in a 3-0 victory for Leipzig. The Bavarians were denied the trophy.
